DNC - On the afternoon of July 12, 2024, Nam Can Tho University (DNC) held a ceremony to award scholarship sponsorship decisions to international students from the Lao People’s Democratic Republic studying at the university. This initiative aims to strengthen international cooperation and create favorable conditions for Lao students to access the educational environment in Vietnam.
The ceremony took place within the framework of the official visit and working session of the delegation from the Ministry of Education and Sports (MOES) of Laos. The delegation was led by Dr. Samlane Phankhavong, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos. Attendees included Dr. Khamtan Somvong, Education and Culture Attaché at the Embassy of Laos in Vietnam; Ms. Lienseng Phengsavath, Deputy Consul General of Laos in Da Nang; Mr. Lonphanh Phaudavanh, Deputy Consul General of Laos in Ho Chi Minh City, among others. Representing Nam Can Tho University were Dr. Lawyer Nguyen Tien Dung, Chairman of the University Council; Dr. Nguyen Van Quang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Rector; along with the Vice Rectors of Nam Can Tho University.
The main focus of the working sessions between the Lao delegation and Nam Can Tho University (DNC) was to explore and establish opportunities for cooperation in education and human resource training. On behalf of the university, Dr. Nguyen Van Quang, Rector of Nam Can Tho University, expressed his honor and delight in welcoming Deputy Minister of Education and Sports of Laos, Mr. Samlane Phankhavong, and the delegation to visit DNC. This visit marks a new milestone, opening up broad opportunities for collaboration in education and training between the two countries, while also strengthening and developing the traditional friendship and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Laos.

On this occasion, DNC provided 10 scholarships to Lao international students to study at the university. Specifically, the scholarships cover the following fields: General Medicine (2 scholarships), Pharmacy (2 scholarships), Civil Engineering (2 scholarships), Automotive Engineering Technology (2 scholarships), and Information Technology (2 scholarships). In addition, DNC sponsors tuition fees for Lao students to attend Vietnamese language preparatory courses at Cuu Long University in Vinh Long province, with a support amount of VND 12 million per scholarship for a duration of 10 months. The total value of the scholarship sponsorship is estimated at over VND 4.2 billion. The selection of scholarship recipients will be conducted by the Lao Ministry of Education according to their regulations.
Through its efforts in cooperation and academic exchange, DNC aims to contribute to the development of high-quality human resources for Laos, thereby helping to strengthen and further deepen the longstanding friendship and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Laos.

Dr. Samlane Phankhavong, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, expressed his sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam and Nam Can Tho University for their support in training human resources for Laos. He highly appreciated the contributions of the DNC Scholarship Fund for Lao international students, which provides opportunities for them to study and conduct research at Nam Can Tho University.

On behalf of DNC, the university commits to providing optimal facilities, a supportive learning environment, and living conditions for Lao international students. Additionally, DNC will assist students throughout their studies and research to help them achieve the best possible results. Upon graduation, students may choose to remain in Vietnam to contribute their expertise or return to Laos to help develop their homeland.
In addition, Nam Can Tho University is actively strengthening international cooperation with prestigious universities worldwide. The university has enrolled students in the Business Administration program offered through a joint partnership with the Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST) and is collaborating with the VMED Organization (India) on consulting services for study abroad and the admission and training of international students.
