Dr. Nguyễn Văn Quang - Secretary of the Party Committee and current Rector of Nam Can Tho University - is an outstanding educator and leader who has made significant contributions not only to the advancement of education and training but also to strengthening the university’s standing within the higher education system of the Mekong Delta region.

Dr. Quang has also pioneered the advancement of applied scientific research, leading to practical innovations that address critical issues in the Mekong Delta.

A National Hero of Labor, a People’s Teacher, and a Renowned Agricultural Scientist - has been recognized internationally for his lifelong dedication to education and science. Professor Xuân is currently the Honorary President of Nam Can Tho University. For decades, he has been a leading figure in agricultural science in Vietnam and a mentor to generations of researchers. He is especially known for developing many high-quality rice varieties in the Mekong Delta region, earning him the nickname “the father of Vietnamese rice.

His contributions to Nam Can Tho University have been significant:

• From 2009 to 2013, he served as Chairman of the Founding Council.
• From 2013 to December 2020, he was the University Rector.
• Since December 1, 2020, he has held the role of Honorary Rector.

Throughout his time at the university, Professor Xuân has been a strong advisor to the University Council, helping build and strengthen the faculty and staff team. He introduced innovative training methods to improve teaching quality and mentor younger generations of lecturers. As a founder and leader, Professor Xuân has also been a key figure in driving the university’s research programs and international partnerships. He helped form important collaborations with educational and scientific organizations both in Vietnam and abroad.
