ORIENTATION WEEK

Orientation Week is designed to help you become acquainted with DNC and your academic program. This is your opportunity to explore everything that student life at DNC has in store for you.

Throughout Orientation Week, you will be introduced to all the essential student services and important contact points. You will also gain key information through the How to DNC sessions and have a chance to discover the campus either through in-person tours or virtual options. This week is a great way to meet new classmates, faculty members, and university staff, as well as to explore clubs and student organizations on campus and prepare yourself to enjoy your student journey to the fullest.

How to DNC

Your journey begins with How to DNC, which is the first and most important step in ensuring a successful start to your academic life. This is a free online orientation course specifically designed to help all new students make a smooth and confident transition into university life.

Through How to DNC, you will learn fundamental information about course registration, class schedules, building friendships, finding your way around campus, getting involved in student activities, and learning about all available support services.

This course is suitable for both first-time students and those returning to their studies.

By completing the How to DNC course, you will know:

  • How to navigate both the digital and physical spaces at DNC
  • How to manage your course enrollment using the myDNC system
  • Important study skills and information about academic support services
  • How to engage in the DNC community and join extracurricular activities
  • How to access career support services and prepare for future employment

If you experience any issues accessing Canvas or the DNC systems, you can contact the IT Support team. For any other concerns, you may reach out to Student Connect for guidance.

Welcome Day

On Welcome Day, you will set foot on campus for the very first time. You will receive your official DNC student ID card, join guided campus tours, and visit service booths to explore resources available to you.

Welcome day highlights:

  • International Student Welcome Ceremony where you will be officially welcomed by the university
  • Introduction to DNC, including its faculties, departments, and student support offices
  • Opportunities to meet university leaders, academic advisors, and student mentors

Student Housing Introduction:

  • Detailed explanation of dormitory check-in procedures
  • Overview of dormitory rules and community guidelines
  • Tour of dormitory facilities, including the dining hall, laundry services, and recreational areas

Campus Navigation and Practical Information:

  • Learn the locations of lecture halls and classrooms and how to easily find them using the campus map
  • Administrative guidance on how to open a bank account, purchase a mobile SIM card, and register for health insurance
  • Emergency contacts and support services including the international student support office and guidelines on handling unforeseen situations like losing important documents or needing medical assistance

Campus and City Exploration:

  • Participate in a campus tour and get to know the facilities where you will be studying and socializing
  • Join a city tour to visit local cultural attractions and nearby amenities
  • Attend a Welcome Night and Cultural Exchange Event to meet other students and experience cultural diversity at DNC
How to Get-Ahead Workshop

To help you adjust to university life, DNC offers a series of How to Get-Ahead workshops specially designed for newcomers. These workshops provide useful tips on achieving your academic goals while maintaining your well-being.

During these sessions, you will:

  • Learn about crucial student services such as the Library, Canvas platform, Academic Success services, Wellbeing programs, Student Life activities, career counseling, and international exchange opportunities.
  • Meet your peers, academic staff, and university personnel.
  • Discover how to make the most of your experience and build a strong foundation for your studies and career.

Note: You must log in with your DNC student account and register in advance to attend the How to Get-Ahead workshops.

Participation in School and Program Induction sessions is mandatory for all new students. These sessions are designed to give you a clear understanding of your program’s structure, academic requirements, and study expectations. You will also have the opportunity to meet your lecturers, connect with classmates, and get to know your academic community.

You will receive an official induction invitation from your faculty, sent directly to your DNC email account before Orientation Week. Please remember to check your inbox regularly so you don’t miss important updates.
