I. Introduction
University Labor Union was established under Decision No. 80/QĐ-LĐLĐ
dated May 5, 2014, issued by the Standing Committee of the Can Tho City Federation of Labour.
As a socio-political organization representing faculty members, staff, and workers at the
University, the grassroots Trade Union plays a vital role in safeguarding the lawful and legitimate
rights and interests of its members. It also serves as a driving force in patriotic emulation
movements, contributing to the creation of a civil, democratic, modern, and friendly educational
environment.
Since its inception, University Labor Union has continuously grown
stronger, innovating its content and modes of operation. With a spirit of responsibility,
creativity, and enthusiasm, union officials have made significant contributions to the comprehensive
and sustainable development of the University.
II. Functions and Duties
University Labor Union: Roles and Responsibilities
- University Labor Union operates in accordance with the Charter of the Vietnam
General Confederation of Labour and relevant legal regulations. It fulfills its role as a
bridge between employees and the Party, the University administration, and other
organizations. Its primary functions and duties include:
- Political and legal education and communication: Regularly
disseminating the Party's guidelines, State policies and laws; organizing educational
activities to enhance political awareness, professional competence, occupational skills, and
ethical standards among union members.
- Protection of rights and welfare of employees: Participating
in the formulation and monitoring of policies on wages, insurance, and social welfare;
addressing employee petitions and complaints; promptly reflecting legitimate aspirations to
competent authorities.
- Promotion of grassroots democracy: Coordinating with the
University Council and Board of Rectors to implement grassroots democratic regulations,
ensuring employees’ right to be informed, consulted, and involved in supervision.
- Encouraging emulation movements: Launching practical movements
such as “Excellent and Creative Work Performance”, “Good at Public Work and Domestic
Duties”, “Green – Clean – Beautiful – Safe”, among others, to inspire enthusiasm for
teaching, learning, research, and innovation.
- Identification and training of outstanding union members:
Proactively introducing exemplary members to the Party for consideration and development,
contributing to the building of a clean and strong Party organization.
III. Personnel
On April 19, 2023, University Labor Union held its solemn Congress for
the 2023–2028 term, electing the following Executive Committee members:

Operating with a spirit of unity, responsibility, and dedication, the Executive Committee develops
annual action plans aligned with the University’s development goals.
With a focus on innovation and effectiveness, the grassroots Trade Union has achieved outstanding
results: consistently recognized as an excellent and strong union, receiving numerous certificates
of merit from ministries, sectors, and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour. Many individuals
have also been honored with awards from the Can Tho City Federation of Labour, the Education Trade
Union, and various levels of government. Notably, union members at Nam Can Tho University actively
participate in social and charitable activities, contributing meaningfully to the community.
IV. Development Orientation
Key Development Orientations
- In the coming years, University Labor Union will continue to innovate and
improve the quality of its operations, striving to build a comprehensively strong trade
union organization. Key orientations include:
- Strengthening the trade union organization: Enhancing the
quality of union activities, promoting the role of union officials, effectively organizing
movements and events to foster unity and engagement among members.
- Enhancing coordination with university leadership: Aligning
union activities with the University’s political and academic missions; promoting the
development of a positive educational culture and a fair, democratic, and creative working
environment.
- Capacity building for union officials: Organizing training
courses and workshops to update knowledge and improve skills; developing a team of
competent, dedicated, and responsible union leaders.
- Welfare and rights protection: Continuously monitoring the
implementation of policies and proposing timely recommendations to protect members’ lawful
and legitimate rights and interests.
- Contributing to Party development: Serving as a bridge between
members and the Party; discovering and fostering promising individuals for Party development
to build a clean and strong political organization.
- With determination and solidarity, University Labor Union will continue to
accompany faculty members, staff, and workers, promoting collective strength to further
advance the University’s sustainable development, contributing to the education and training
of high-quality human resources for the Mekong Delta region and the nation as a whole.
