DNC - On the morning of January 18, 2025, Nam Can Tho University hosted the inauguration ceremony of the DNC Institute of Health Sciences and the celebration of its 12th anniversary (January 25, 2013 - January 25, 2025).
The event was honored to welcome distinguished guests, including Dr. Samlane Phankhavong, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports of the Lao People's Democratic Republic; People's Teacher Prof. Dr. Sci. Banh Tien Long, former Permanent Deputy Minister of Education and Training; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Truong Son, former Deputy Minister of Health; as well as senior leaders of Can Tho City, such as representatives from the City Council, People's Committee, and other municipal departments. Representatives from partner organizations, enterprises, media agencies, and faculty members, staff, and students of the university also attended the event.

The program began with a tour of the DNC Institute of Health Sciences. Situated on a campus spanning over 26.8 hectares, the institute features an 11-story building with over 83 functional rooms and 15 large lecture halls dedicated to the faculties of Medicine, International Medicine, Nursing, Preventive Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Medical Imaging, Laboratory Science, and a preclinical hospital. The building covers a total construction area of approximately 26,000 square meters, with a total investment of over VND 750 billion (equivalent to USD 29.5 million) in construction and modern equipment.

- 1st floor: Office of the Faculty of International Medicine, International Cooperation Office, Building Management Office, Hippocrates Hall, Yersin Meeting Room, Hai Thuong Lan Ong Lecture Hall (smart classroom), and Technical Room.

-2nd floor: Tue Tinh Lecture Hall (smart classroom), nine additional lecture halls, and a relaxation area.
- 3rd floor : Faculty of Medicine, with four physiology practice rooms, two pathophysiology and immunology practice rooms, and two anatomy practice rooms.
- 4th floor: Faculty of Medicine, with 11 practice rooms for microbiology, anatomy, parasitology, laboratory science, histology, and pathology.
- 5th floor: Faculty of Medicine, with 10 practice rooms for physiology, biology, biochemistry, medical imaging, and molecular biology .
- 6th floor: Preclinical hospital with clinical technical rooms, ICU, operating rooms, internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics, nursing care rooms, gynecology, pediatrics, skill training centers, and OSCE/OSPE areas.
- 7th floor: Faculty of Nursing, with 12 rooms including VR rooms, anatomy practice rooms, nursing rooms, dentistry and aesthetic nursing rooms, health science research rooms, rehabilitation nursing rooms, neonatal care rooms, patient interaction rooms, obstetrics rooms, and elderly care rooms.
- 8th floor: Faculty of Dentistry with 21 rooms, including lab practice areas, preventive zones, simulation rooms, CAD planning rooms, wet labs, milling rooms, treatment rooms, X-ray rooms, sterilization rooms, operating rooms, recovery rooms, materials rooms, and preoperative rooms.
- 9th floor: Faculty of Pharmacy with 13 rooms, including pharmaceutical chemistry labs, drug production labs, formulation labs, pharmacology labs, practice pharmacies, herbal medicine labs, analytical chemistry rooms, quality control labs, and clinical pharmacy labs.
- 10th floor: Library, three pharmacy rooms, meditation rooms, a spiritual area, relaxation spaces, and a health sciences library.

The 6th and 7th floors of the DNC Institute of Health Sciences are designed as a simulated preclinical hospital, supporting education and training in health sciences such as general medicine, nursing, medical imaging, and dentistry, for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. These floors are also utilized for OSCE and OSPE examinations.
The remaining floors of the building are purposefully designed and equipped for various activities, including operating rooms, dental facilities, obstetrics and gynecology units, classrooms, control rooms, smart classrooms, VR labs, and an auditorium with a capacity of 300 people, along with meeting rooms for up to 100 attendees.
This state-of-the-art facility was built to accommodate the training needs of over 6,000 students in fields such as General Medicine, Medical Imaging, Preventive Medicine, Medical Laboratory Science, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Biomedical Engineering, and Nutrition. It also serves as a clinical skills training center for both domestic and international students.
The ceremony also celebrated the 12th anniversary of Nam Can Tho University. Over the past 12 years, the university has been recognized for its high-quality education, modern facilities, and green, clean, and beautiful campus, making it one of the most prominent universities in the Mekong Delta region. Following the motto of creating “projects upon projects,” Nam Can Tho University continues to demonstrate its credibility and strong commitment to society regarding education and training quality. Its large-scale, modern facilities support over 24,000 students and learners in their studies and scientific research at the university.
Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Chairman of the University Council of Nam Can Tho University, emphasized, "This facility is a symbol of the aspiration for knowledge, contributing to the realization of the goal to create an ideal environment for learning and research, especially for health sciences students and international medical students."
The inauguration of the DNC Institute of Health Sciences is a meaningful milestone to commemorate the university's 12th anniversary (January 25, 2013 - January 25, 2025). At the event, leaders of Nam Can Tho University and the Can Tho City People’s Committee delivered speeches. Faculty members, staff, and students viewed a video showcasing the university's achievements over the past 12 years, and outstanding individuals and groups were recognized for their exceptional contributions in 2024.
With its remarkable achievements, Nam Can Tho University has outlined its strategic plan for the future. Building on its accomplishments, the university has identified five core objectives to guide its development:
First: By 2030, become a leading center for high-quality human resource trainingthat meets labor market demands, societal needs, and international collaboration in the fields of health sciences, socio-economic development, and science-technology. The university aims to achieve a reputation comparable to advanced universities in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
Second: Enhance international cooperation by strengthening partnerships with global institutions. The university will also introduce selected academic programs from international universities that align with Vietnam’s developmental needs, while improving English proficiency among students.
Third: Promote scientific research among faculty and students , with a focus on encouraging research project registration and the publication of international papers. Efforts will also be made to improve the quality of the university's Journal of Science and Economic Development.
Fourth: Recruit highly qualified faculty members and provide competitive incentives for doctoral-level professionals. The university will continue to invest in the professional development of its faculty, staff, and lecturers to meet modern educational trends and methodologies.
Fifth: Upgrade infrastructure and facilities to meet the needs of teaching and learning. In Q4 2024, the university will commence Phase 2 of the Nam Can Tho University Hospital, a 20-story building with over 55,000 square meters of floor space, valued at approximately VND 1,500 billion. The hospital is expected to be completed and operational by Q2 2027. Additionally, in Q2 2025, construction will begin on the DNC International Dormitory, a 15-story building valued at VND 450 billion, designed to provide housing for both domestic and international students.
The inauguration ceremony of the DNC Institute of Health Sciences and the celebration of the university’s 12th anniversary left a profound impression, solidifying DNC's pioneering position in education and healthcare. The event not only attracted attention from potential partners but also received high praise from the community.
The DNC Health Sciences building is envisioned as a high-quality training hub for health science students, especially in the Faculty of Medicine. This facility not only supports education and research for domestic students but also aims to attract international students. This strategic step marks a significant milestone in elevating DNC’s medical education and reinforces Nam Can Tho University’s position on the global education map in the future.
Closing a memorable year, the warm year-end gathering at DNC was not only an opportunity to review and reflect on 2024 but also a moment for every member to feel proud of being part of the DNC family.
A highlight of the celebration was the recognition of outstanding individuals and groups. The names announced during the ceremony represented not only the pride of the university but also the motivation for the entire team to strive for greater achievements in the coming year.
