On July 19, 2025, at the Hippocrates Hall – Institute of Health Sciences, Nam Can Tho University, in collaboration with the Appalachian College of Pharmacy (ACP), USA, held the Consultation Conference on the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Program. The conference took place at the Hippocrates Hall, where experts provided consultation and answered questions about the PharmD program for students.
Appalachian College of Pharmacy (ACP) is one of the leading pharmacy schools in the state of Virginia, USA. The institution is distinguished by its teaching model that closely integrates theory and practice, with a special focus on developing comprehensive competencies for international students, particularly those from developing countries.
At the conference, representatives from ACP provided an overview of the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program — an intensive training model designed to equip students with solid knowledge in clinical pharmacy and practical skills within a modern healthcare environment. The program particularly emphasizes experiential learning through internships at hospitals and healthcare facilities accredited by U.S. standards.
One of the highlights presented at the conference was the “PharmD 5+2” training pathway: Students will study for 5 years at Nam Can Tho University to complete their Bachelor of Pharmacy program, then transfer to ACP to continue 2 additional years to earn the PharmD degree. During their studies in the United States, students will engage in intensive clinical practice, gain direct exposure to an advanced healthcare system, and receive guidance from experienced professionals in the field.
For students transferring from other universities, their applications will be reviewed based on their educational background and individual competencies.
Students engaged in discussions and asked questions about their future career orientations.
Upon graduation, students holding a PharmD degree will be eligible to practice in the United States (upon completion of required examinations and legal procedures). Additionally, ACP supports students in applying for Residency or Fellowship programs, facilitating further graduate studies and employment opportunities at major hospitals, research institutes, and healthcare facilities across the U.S.
Beyond the program introduction, the conference also provided an opportunity for attendees to engage in direct dialogue with international experts and domestic faculty members. Many questions regarding the study journey in the U.S., scholarship opportunities, adaptability to the global learning environment, as well as future career prospects were thoroughly addressed.
Students took commemorative photos after the program with Dr. Do Van Mai, PharmD – Vice Dean in charge of the Faculty of Pharmacy.
This consultation conference marks an important step in the internationalization process of pharmacy education at Nam Can Tho University. It also serves as a bridge to expand opportunities for Vietnamese students to study, conduct research, and practice pharmacy in an international environment.
