Center for Student Support & Business Cooperation – On June 8, 2024, Session 3 of the DNC Hands-on Workshop with Alumni & Students was held at Nam Can Tho University, attracting the attention of many students eager to develop real-world career skills. This session focused on a crucial yet often overlooked topic: “Soft Skills That Help You Advance in Your Career.”
The workshop featured the special guest speaker Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trieu, an alumnus from Cohort 2 of the Pharmacy program at DNC, who is currently serving as Head of Category Management at Trung Son Pharma—one of the leading pharmaceutical retail chains in the Mekong Delta region.
Drawing from his own academic journey and extensive professional experience, Mr. Trieu delivered an engaging and deeply relatable talk on the importance of soft skills in the workplace, especially for young graduates just beginning their careers. He emphasized that in today's fast-paced and highly competitive job market, having technical knowledge alone is not enough.
“If you lack soft skills, you risk losing your edge—even if you're excellent in your major. Knowledge gets you the interview, but soft skills help you thrive and grow in your role,” Mr. Trieu noted.
The session covered several key areas, including:
In addition to theoretical concepts, Mr. Trieu also shared real-life case studies and personal anecdotes, showing how soft skills helped him navigate challenges, manage teams, and seize promotion opportunities. He encouraged students to start developing these skills while still in school, through group work, club activities, internships, and volunteering.
The interactive format of the workshop allowed students to ask questions, engage in open discussion, and reflect on their own strengths and areas for improvement. Many participants expressed appreciation for the practical guidance and honest insights from a senior who once stood in their shoes.
This session was not just a lecture—it was a wake-up call. It reminded students that career success is not solely defined by a diploma, but by the ability to communicate, collaborate, and grow with others.
Workshops like these continue to demonstrate Nam Can Tho University’s commitment to holistic student development—ensuring that graduates are not only academically prepared but also personally equipped to thrive in today’s real-world job market.
