DNC – On May 23, 2025, at Hall E2 of Nam Can Tho University, the Center for Student Support and Business Cooperation hosted DNC Talkshow – Season 3, Session 2 with the theme: “The Future of Food – What Will We Eat in a World of 10 Billion People?” The event attracted a large number of students passionate about food, technology, and sustainable development trends in the face of a rapidly growing global population.
This talk show served as an open forum, offering students the chance to listen to and directly engage with two experienced guest speakers:
MSc. Nguyen Hoang Sinh – Deputy Head of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Nam Can Tho University
Ms. Nguyen Quynh Nhu – Director of Loc Khang Import-Export Co., Ltd.
With the world’s population projected to reach 10 billion by 2050, food security and the future of dietary trends have become urgent, practical topics of global importance.
“Vietnam currently has nearly 8 million people following vegan or plant-based diets. According to the latest research by Nielsen, the plant-based food market in Vietnam is valued at approximately 1 billion USD, growing at a rate of 10% per year – a clear indication of increasing interest and shifting consumer behavior.”
“Alongside choosing food that is healthy and environmentally friendly, consumers – especially students – need to be vigilant against misleading advertising trends. Cases like Kera vegetable candy or unregulated products such as ‘lòng se điếu’ serve as important lessons about filtering information and verifying product origins.”
Future food is not only about technological innovation, but also about a transformation in consumer and production mindsets. Every individual – from students and researchers to businesses – plays a vital role in building a food ecosystem that is safe, healthy, and sustainable.
