On the afternoon of January 05, 2026, Nam Can Tho University held a working session with leaders of the Can Tho City People’s Committee and representatives of relevant departments and agencies to discuss and clarify existing issues, while jointly proposing solutions to remove obstacles and create favorable conditions for the University to continue its sustainable development in the coming period, in close alignment with the City’s overall development orientation.
The working session was attended by Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen - Chairman of Can Tho city People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi - Vice Chairman of Can Tho city People's Committee, along with leaders from the Departments of Finance, Construction, Agriculture and Environment, Health, and representatives from other departments, agencies, land development centers, and leaders of the People's Committees of the relevant communes.
On the side of Nam Can Tho University, attendees included Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Chairman of the University Council, the Board of Directors, members of the University Council, and leaders of functional departments and divisions.

The working session was organized based on Official Dispatch No. 751/ĐHNCT dated November 13, 2025, sent by Nam Can Tho University to the City People’s Committee, proposing solutions to address several difficulties and obstacles encountered during the implementation of the University’s development orientations. The discussion primarily focused on issues related to planning and land use for the expansion of training facilities and the implementation of social welfare projects, including plans for a faculty housing area, an eco-tourism and resort complex, and notably the project for a Geriatric Institute and Geriatric Hospital. These initiatives aim to provide high-quality healthcare and medical services for the community, in line with the society’s growing needs.

Representative of the Department of Health assessed the Geriatric Institute model as being in line with the City’s development trends and healthcare policies, and affirmed that the Department would coordinate with and provide professional support to the University throughout the implementation process.

The Chairman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, acknowledged and highly appreciated the contributions of Nam Can Tho University and Nam Can Tho University Medical Center to education and the provision of high-quality human resources for Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta region. He also affirmed that these two institutions play an important role in key sectors of particular interest to the City, namely healthcare and education, in line with the State’s policies and development orientations.

In his concluding remarks, based on a review of the actual land resources, current regulations, and recent adjustments to the legal framework, the City’s leadership and representatives of relevant departments and agencies discussed and proposed specific solutions. They also provided guidance to the University on administrative procedures and key regulatory considerations to facilitate the early implementation of the proposed plans and to address existing difficulties and obstacles.
All parties agreed on the shared goal of close coordination and mutual support, creating favorable conditions for Nam Can Tho University to continue its sustainable development and make effective contributions to the City’s overall growth, particularly in the fields of healthcare, education and training, and science and technology.

Previously, many proposals from the University regarding the removal of difficulties in the implementation of the second phase of the Nam Can Tho University Medical Center and the granting of construction permits for the International Dormitory were considered and approved by the People's Committee of Can Tho City; currently, the International Dormitory is in the preparation phase for the official commencement of construction on January 16, 2026. In the near future, Nam Can Tho University plans to upgrade DNC Health Science Institute to the College of Health Sciences, aiming to train high-quality medical personnel, and continue to accompany Can Tho City in local development and improving the quality of life for its people.
