On the morning of January 13, the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation of Can Tho City organized a conference to review voluntary blood donation activities in 2025, outline key orientations, tasks, and solutions for 2026, and officially launch the Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign during the Lunar New Year and the Red Spring Festival 2026.
Attending the conference were Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee; Mr. Nguyen Hong Ha, Deputy Head of the Party Committee’s Commission for Information and Mass Mobilization, along with representatives from departments, agencies, and relevant units.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee and Head of the Can Tho City Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, delivered a keynote address and provided direction at the conference.
Over the years, the voluntary blood donation movement in Can Tho City has continued to expand widely, receiving strong leadership attention from Party committees and authorities at all levels, as well as active participation from people across all social strata. Steering Committees for Voluntary Blood Donation have intensified communication and advocacy through practical initiatives such as the Red Spring Festival, blood donation campaigns during the Lunar New Year, the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, and the Red Journey Program.
In 2025, despite various challenges, the Standing Board of the City Steering Committee proactively coordinated the organization of blood donation drives at communes, wards, colleges, universities, and local institutions. As a result, the city collected 65,540 units of blood, exceeding the assigned target of 65,500 units by 100.06%, as set by the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation. This achievement made a significant contribution to emergency care and medical treatment for patients in Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta region.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep and Mr. Nguyen Hong Ha presented gifts to disadvantaged students who actively participated in the voluntary blood donation movement.
Speaking at the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep acknowledged and commended the close and effective coordination among departments, sectors, and local authorities in promoting voluntary blood donation. She also highly appreciated the core role of the Can Tho City Red Cross Society, which serves as the Standing Agency of the City Steering Committee.
Regarding future orientations, the Vice Chairwoman stated that in 2026, the National Steering Committee has assigned Can Tho City a target of 69,000 units of blood. The city aims to mobilize and collect at least 13,800 units (equivalent to 20% of the annual target), with blood units of 350 ml accounting for no less than 65%, in accordance with the established plan.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep presented gifts to students participating in voluntary blood donation activities.
She requested the Can Tho City Red Cross Society to closely coordinate with the Department of Health, the Can Tho City Youth Union, and member units of the Steering Committee to synchronously implement solutions, with a focus on effectively organizing the Red Spring Festival and blood donation activities during the Lunar New Year 2026, thereby ensuring a sufficient blood supply for emergency response and medical treatment during peak periods.
In addition, Steering Committees at all levels were encouraged to further strengthen communication and mobilization efforts among agencies, educational institutions, enterprises, armed forces, and the general public; proactively organize the Red Spring Festival at the grassroots level; and remain ready to mobilize reserve blood donor clubs and rare blood group clubs (Rh-negative) when necessary.
Mr. Nguyen Hong Ha joined administrators, lecturers, and students of Nam Can Tho University in participating in voluntary blood donation activities.
On this occasion, the Can Tho City Red Cross Society mobilized resources to present 20 gift packages (each valued at approximately VND 350,000) to disadvantaged students who actively participate in voluntary blood donation activities, thereby spreading the spirit of compassion and social responsibility within the community.
Delegates posed for a commemorative photo at the Voluntary Blood Donation Festival held as part of the event.
At the conference, the City Steering Committee officially launched the Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign during the Lunar New Year and the Red Spring Festival 2026, calling on officials, civil servants, public employees, youth members, and citizens to continue joining hands for the health and well-being of the community.
