On the morning of January 16, 2026, at Hall D, Nam Can Tho University solemnly held the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the International Student Dormitory Project, in conjunction with activities celebrating the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the 13th Anniversary of Nam Can Tho University, the presentation of QS Stars 4-Star and UPM 5-Star certifications, and the announcement of the establishment decisions for the affiliated colleges, including the College of Health Sciences, College of Laws and Economics, College of Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence, and the College of Engineering and Technology. The event marked an important historical milestone, reaffirming Nam Can Tho University’s pioneering position within the higher education system of the Mekong Delta, while simultaneously opening a new phase of development with a comprehensive internationalization vision.

The ceremony took place in a solemn, joyful, and proud atmosphere, with the participation of more than 500 delegates, including leaders of the Party and State at various levels, international experts, strategic partners, alumni, and the entire faculty, staff, and student body of the University. This event was not only an occasion to commemorate the 13-year journey of establishment and development, but also a vivid testament to DNC’s strong commitment to enhancing the quality of education and advancing toward international standards.

Notably, the program was held in an atmosphere of vibrant and meaningful emulation activities in celebration of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, demonstrating Nam Can Tho University’s strong sense of solidarity and active response to this major political event of the country. Through the meaningful activities conducted at the ceremony, DNC reaffirmed its role as a non-public higher education institution closely aligned with the development orientations of the Party and the State, contributing to the training of high-quality human resources in service of Vietnam’s industrialization, modernization, and international integration in the new era.

The groundbreaking ceremony of the International Student Dormitory project was a major highlight of the program. The 15-storey building is constructed within the Nam Can Tho University campus following a modern, integrated, convenient, and environmentally friendly model, meeting international standards for student accommodation, study, and daily living. The dormitory is designed with a variety of room types, common living areas, self-study zones, community spaces, and comprehensive service facilities, ensuring a safe, civilized, green, clean, and beautiful environment. The project not only serves domestic students but also aims to accommodate international students, experts, and foreign lecturers who come to study, teach, and conduct research at the University.

The investment in the construction of the International Student Dormitory demonstrates Nam Can Tho University’s long-term vision and strong commitment to enhancing the quality of educational services, improving learning and living conditions for students, and simultaneously establishing a solid foundation for the University’s education internationalization strategy in the new phase. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2027, increasing the total accommodation capacity to more than 2,000 beds and supporting DNC’s strategy to attract international students.

At the ceremony, the University was also honored to receive the QS Stars 4-Star certification—one of the world’s most prestigious higher education quality assessment systems—and the UPM 5-Star certification, a reputable evaluation framework focusing on training effectiveness, learner satisfaction, industry engagement, and the capacity to meet societal needs, awarded by respected domestic and international organizations. These certifications recognize DNC’s outstanding achievements in curriculum innovation, scientific research, and international cooperation, affirming the University’s position and reputation within regional higher education rankings.

At the same time, the ceremony announced the Decision on the establishment of the College of Health Sciences – a member unit of DNC, focusing on training in medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and medical engineering. In addition, the University officially established the College of Laws and Economics, the College of Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence, and the College of Engineering and Technology. This is a strategic move that reflects a modern governance mindset, aiming to specialize training fields, enhance management and operational capacity, and strengthen academic development. The newly established colleges will implement English-taught programs, international partnerships, and applied research activities, with the goal of training high-quality healthcare and professional human resources to meet the sustainable development needs of the region. With an experienced faculty and modern facilities, the College of Health Sciences is expected to become a leading center for medical and pharmaceutical education in the Mekong Delta.
