On the afternoon of September 12, 2025, at the Yersin Meeting Room – DNC Health Science Institute hosted a reception and working session with the delegation from the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, aiming to promote educational cooperation and expand study-abroad opportunities for students.
The working session took place in a friendly and professional atmosphere, marking a new step forward in the partnership between Nam Can Tho University and U.S. diplomatic agencies, contributing to improving training quality and fostering international integration. Attending the event, on behalf of the U.S. Consulate General were Ms. Brett Alexandra Walkley – Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City; Ms. Nguyễn Hồng Hoa – Education Specialist; along with other delegation members.
Representing Nam Can Tho University were Dr. Lawyer Nguyễn Tiến Dũng – Chairman of Nam Can Tho University Council, Chairman of Nam Can Tho University Medical Center; Dr. Nguyễn Văn Quang – Party Committee Secretary, Rector; Mr. Nguyễn Trí Đạt – Member of the University Council, Deputy General Director of Nam Can Tho Trading Co., Ltd., Head of Construction Committee; Mr. Nguyễn Trí Đức – MBA, Assistant to the Chairmanl, Member of the University Council, and Director of DNC Software Development and Application Center; together with esteemed leaders of faculties, departments, centers, and affiliated units of Nam Can Tho University.

The discussion focused on educational cooperation opportunities between the university and the U.S. Consulate General, while also expanding connections between students and faculty of the two countries. Ms. Brett Alexandra Walkley, representative of the U.S. Consulate General, proposed establishing partnerships between DNC and leading universities in the United States, and pledged support to realize sustainable cooperation initiatives, academic exchanges, and scientific research collaborations.

The two sides discussed expanding educational cooperation to improve the quality of training for students and faculty in both Vietnam and the United States. During the working session, DNC faculty members raised questions with the Consulate General delegation regarding procedures and support options for Vietnamese students seeking visas to study in the U.S., particularly for doctors who pass the U.S. residency program (USMLE).
In response, the U.S. Consulate General provided positive feedback, emphasizing visa support policies for Vietnamese students, including guidance on procedures, document review, and priority programs in the field of healthcare. In addition, Ms. Brett Alexandra Walkley – Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City – also mentioned the U.S. government’s Fulbright scholarship policies, which encourage and provide opportunities for DNC students to pursue postgraduate education.
On this occasion, Ms. Brett Alexandra Walkley also invited representatives of the university and DNC students to attend the “30th Anniversary Celebration of Vietnam – U.S. Diplomatic Relations”, scheduled to take place on September 13, 2025, at Luu Huu Phuoc Park in Can Tho City, as an opportunity to further strengthen cultural and educational exchange.

At the working session, the U.S. Consulate General also addressed the challenges students face when pursuing postgraduate studies in the United States, due to stringent admission requirements. In this context, with its highly regarded training quality and modern, well-equipped facilities, Nam Can Tho University is expected to become an ideal academic destination, helping Vietnamese students expand learning opportunities and career development.
