Chinhphu.vn – For the first time, a university in the Mekong Delta has simultaneously achieved 5-star UPM and 4-star QS Stars accreditation – two prestigious national and international education ranking and evaluation systems. This significant milestone not only affirms the quality of education at Nam Can Tho University but also opens up opportunities to access world-class education right in the Mekong Delta region.
On January 16th, Nam Can Tho University (DNC) officially announced that it had simultaneously achieved two important educational ranking standards: 5 stars in the UPM ranking and 4 stars in the QS Stars ranking . This is the first university in the Mekong Delta region to achieve this accomplishment, thereby affirming its increasingly prominent position on the map of higher education in Vietnam.
According to the assessment of the UPM Institute for Innovation (under the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations), Nam Can Tho University was ranked 5 stars for meeting 8 groups of criteria with 52 indicators , comprehensively covering areas from strategic management, training, scientific research to community service.
Simultaneously, the University was also awarded a 4-star rating by QS Stars (UK), one of the most prestigious and popular university ranking systems in the world . Notably, two important criteria, "Graduate employment" and "facilities," of Nam Can Tho University both achieved a perfect 5-star rating.

According to Dr. Nguyen Van Quang, Rector of Nam Can Tho University , the fact that a training institution in the Mekong Delta simultaneously achieved two prestigious certifications has strategic significance in the context of the region facing a shortage of high-quality human resources.
Instead of having to go to Ho Chi Minh City or abroad to study, students in the Mekong Delta can now access internationally standardized training environments right in Can Tho. This not only helps narrow the gap in training quality between regions but also contributes to retaining and developing local human resources , serving sustainable development for the region.
In particular, ranking systems such as QS Stars and UPM highly value scientific research capabilities and community service . These are also the core directions that DNC is pursuing, with many topics closely related to the practical realities of the Mekong Delta such as climate change, smart agriculture, waterway logistics, and other areas vital to the region's survival.
A key highlight of the event was the announcement of the decision to establish the College of Health Sciences under Nam Can Tho University. This is considered a strategic step to elevate the training of medical and pharmaceutical fields – a strength of the university for many years.
The College of Health Sciences operates on a "hospital within a university" model , allowing students in Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Medical Imaging Technology to gain clinical practice on campus from their first year of enrollment , under the guidance of specialist doctors who are also lecturers.
According to Dr. Nguyen Van Quang, the combination of international training standards and the "learning by doing" model is creating great appeal for Nam Can Tho University, especially in the context of the serious shortage of high-quality medical personnel in the Mekong Delta.

On this occasion, Nam Can Tho University also announced the decision to establish its affiliated member schools, including: the College of Health Sciences; the College of Law and Economics; the College of Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence; and the College of Technology and Engineering.
This is considered a significant milestone, demonstrating the determination to innovate the organizational model , enhance management capacity, and specialize in the field of training towards modernization and international integration.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, Nguyen Van Khoi, highly appreciated the strategic steps taken by the University, stating that Nam Can Tho University is gradually asserting its position in the Vietnamese higher education system, aiming for sustainable development and deep integration.
In particular, the fact that the University has achieved prestigious international certifications and rankings such as QS Stars 4 stars, UPM 5 stars , participation in THE Impact Rankings , and numerous domestic and international quality accreditation certifications is clear evidence of its long-term vision and strong spirit of innovation in university governance.
Also on January 16th, Nam Can Tho University commenced construction of the international student dormitory with a floor area of over 30,000 m² , 15 stories high , meeting the living and studying needs of approximately 2,500 domestic and international students.
With a total investment of over 550 billion VND , the project is planned to be convenient, safe, and environmentally friendly , integrating all necessary living, learning, and service spaces, contributing to the formation of a dynamic and civilized living environment within the school campus.
